[Review] Total War: WARHAMMER III – Bhashiva Character Pack

by ZedsMerquis in 2026-05-21 20:58:05

The White Tiger of Shang-Yang: Revolutionizing the Grand Cathay Playstyle, After keeping fans eagerly waiting for new Grand Cathay content for quite some time, Creative Assembly has finally dropped the latest expansion: the Bhashiva – Character Pack. It’s safe to say this DLC is far more than just a standard character drop—it introduces a fierce, "predatory" warrior culture that completely tears up the traditional Grand Cathay playbook.

Predatory Playstyle: Bhashiva’s forces and the Tiger Warriors are built for lightning-fast, high-impact assaults that heavily emphasize stealth and agility.

Powerful Duellist: Bhashiva herself shines as a Duelist Lord. She excels at stalking high-value single targets or enemy lords and deleting them instantly with massive initial burst damage, completely bypassing the need for drawn-out engagements.

New Aggressive Units: This pack expands the roster with dual-axe Tiger Warriors that smash through enemy lines with satisfying brutality, Tiger Warrior Stalkers utilizing throwing discs for mid-range harassment, and the heavily armored Iron Claw Tiger Warriors wielding guandaos to shut down large threats. On top of that, the Clawspeaker joins as a versatile spellcaster hero (wielding the Lores of Beasts, Life, and Shadows) to buff allies and disrupt the battlefield.

TIGER WARRIOR SAWAI (LORD)

The Tiger Warrior Sawai is the commanding centrepiece of a Tiger Warriors army, leading the fight while personally hunting the battlefield’s most dangerous foes. Wielding a glaive, they specialise in cutting down large entities, combining anti‑large and armour‑piercing melee damage to bring the deadliest enemies to heel. Despite their role as commander, the Sawai is an unusual mix of fast and well armoured, allowing them to close distance quickly and remain locked in brutal engagements where his presence matters most. Beyond their combat role, the Sawai strengthens the company through the Predatory Instincts ability, buffing nearby Tiger Warriors and reinforcing the roster’s pack‑based playstyle. When struck by fire, the Sawai also has the chance to activate their unique Fight Fire With Fire ability, granting flaming attacks, armour-piercing damage, flame resistance, and terror.

CLAWSPEAKER (SPELLCASTER HERO)

Clawspeakers are the spiritual leaders of the Tiger Warriors, fighting alongside the company rather than bolstering it from afar. Their influence is built around battle prayers, chosen to focus on melee output, protection, or magical empowerment, each path shaping how they bolster nearby Tiger Warrior units through a tightly linked set of passive effects and active invocations. Their versatility carries through into their spellcasting, with the Lores of Beasts, Life, and Shadows providing the tools to support allies, stall enemies, or weather prolonged engagements. Fast and able to Vanguard Deploy, the Clawspeaker keeps pace with the army from the opening moments, and when the battle reaches a breaking point, his unique version of Transformation of Kadon calls forth a Celestial Lion, delivering a surge of divine power exactly where the fighting is fiercest.

TIGER WARRIORS

Tiger Warriors with dual axes form the frontline of the roster and are built explicitly for anti‑infantry combat. Fast, aggressive, and eager to close the distance, they excel at driving into enemy lines and overwhelming lighter units through sustained melee pressure. Their dual weapons make them particularly effective once combat is joined, while their armour provides enough resilience to keep them engaged rather than forcing an early withdrawal. These warriors are not designed to sit back or play defensively; their role is to take ground, pin enemy infantry in place, and allow the rest of the army to dictate how the battle is won.

TIGER WARRIOR STALKERS

Tiger Warrior Stalkers are fast hybrid units that thrive on disruption and mobility. Armed with a unique throwing disc, they harass and soften targets on the approach to a confrontation before committing to melee, where they remain solid fighters rather than dedicated skirmishers. Their speed allows them to reposition rapidly across the battlefield, reinforcing threatened flanks or exploiting openings as they appear. With stealth and stalking abilities reflecting their role as hunters, Stalkers are especially effective at flanking, isolating exposed units, and punishing enemies who lose cohesion.

IRON CLAW TIGER WARRIORS

Of all the Tiger Warriors of Shang‑Yang, none are as feared as those of the Iron Claw. Chosen personally by Bhashiva to serve as her elite and personal bodyguard, they represent the pinnacle of Tiger Warrior discipline and devotion. On the battlefield, that status is reflected in their role: heavily armoured and armed with guandao, the Iron Claws specialise in bringing down large and heavily protected enemies through powerful armour‑piercing strikes. Where the Sawai hunts as an individual commander, the Iron Claws apply the same philosophy at unit scale, locking monsters and elite targets in place and grinding them down through sheer determination. They are committed where the fighting is fiercest, holding their ground against overwhelming threats and ensuring that, so long as they stand, the White Tiger herself is never left undefended.

TAOYAN THE MERCILESS (FREE LEGENDARY HERO)

A favoured general of the Iron Dragon, Taoyan is a hated name in the central provinces where she cruelly put down the rebellious Children of Yin Quai. The uprising was poised to engulf the celestial heartlands with followers of the false Empress when the Jade Dragon called upon Taoyan and her armies to crush them. Such was the bloody fate of the rebels and Taoyan’s heavy handed response that the Jade army refused to serve with her and exiled her to the west. There, the Iron dragon quickly recognised Taoyan’s talents and offered her a place as a lord of Shang-Yang. Ruthless and cunning, Taoyan has proved equal to the task of defending the western borders of the empire, though secretly she covets revenge against the politicians and generals who ousted her, and a return to her place among the Dragon Emperor’s armies.

Highlights

  • Ultimate Novelty: It completely refreshes the Grand Cathay gameplay flavor, shifting the meta from a traditionally slow, defensive playstyle to a fast-paced and thrilling ambush-focused army.
  • Great Value for Beginners: This pack automatically unlocks all basic Grand Cathay units, meaning you get full access even if you don't own any other Cathay DLCs.
  • Incredibly Cool Tiger Units: The combat models and animations for the Tiger Warriors are remarkably fierce and aggressive—a massive treat for players who love collecting beastly or monstrous units.
